Making a positive impact
At Smart Spaces, we believe our technology should optimise environments for people and the planet.
Our mission goes beyond creating intelligent, connected buildings; we’re committed to driving meaningful change for our communities, our employees, and the environment.
We’ve recently launched our new Impact Strategy, focusing on three key areas for our business: Carbon, Communities and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion). As part of this, we’ve set internal objectives for 2026, which we will report on publicly at the end of next year in our first Impact Report.
Carbon: Championing environmental sustainability
We’re actively understanding, measuring, and reducing our operational carbon footprint, while supporting our clients to do the same. Through Carbon Literacy Training and awareness initiatives, every member of our team is encouraged to make informed, sustainable choices both in the workplace and beyond.
Our platform also helps clients measure, understand, and reduce their own carbon impact, providing the data and insights needed to create greener, more efficient spaces across the commercial built environment – a key contributor to climate change.
JEDI: Building an inclusive workplace
We’re proud to foster a culture where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued. We’re continuously improving recruitment processes to ensure inclusivity, undertaking regular gender pay analysis, and increasing internal knowledge by providing DE&I training to all employees.
Regular employee surveys help us better understand our workforce, from job satisfaction to representation, enabling us to create a workplace that reflects and supports the diversity of the communities around us.
Community: Supporting a better society
Connection is at the heart of what we do, both digitally and socially. We actively engage with our local community to understand the biggest challenges and identify where we can make the greatest impact.
Each year, we collectively agree on our charity partnerships, organise a company-wide volunteering day, and encourage employees to support local causes that matter to them.
In 2025, our partnership with Alzheimer’s UK provided our team with valuable education on this life-changing disease through an in-person session at our offices, alongside multiple fundraising activities, including a 26-mile trek, an office bake-off, and an apprentice-style charity shop auction event.
Our commitment
Promoting social and environmental causes isn’t just part of our marketing, it’s part of who we are. Every story we share, event we support, and initiative we launch is designed to inspire action and positive change within our industry and beyond.
Over the last twelve months, we’ve curated sustainability sessions at PropTech, written about the sustainability status of New York’s built environment, and spoken extensively on the importance of impact, including our CEO Dan’s interview on the Making an Impact podcast –
