LEED

Energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-saving

About LEED certification

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world’s most widely used green building certification. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, it evaluates buildings across sustainability categories: energy efficiency, water savings, waste reduction, materials, indoor environmental quality, innovation, and more.

A LEED-certified building signifies to occupiers and investors that it has a lower environmental impact and a healthier indoor environment. Benefits often include reduced utility costs (through lower energy and water use) and improved occupant comfort (better air quality, natural light, and ergonomics).

Achieving LEED enhances a building’s reputation as environmentally responsible and can increase its market appeal by demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and occupant well-being.

How Smart Spaces can help you

Smart Spaces can be a powerful tool in earning LEED points because it provides real-time data and control over building systems. IoT platforms help optimise energy use, water consumption, and indoor air quality – all core aspects of LEED. For example, Smart Spaces can automatically adjust HVAC and lighting based on occupancy and daylight, reducing energy waste (supporting LEED Energy & Atmosphere credits).

It can monitor indoor air quality and thermal comfort, helping maintain healthy conditions that contribute to LEED’s Indoor Environmental Quality credits. By providing analytics and alerts, the platform ensures the building operates as designed (or better), which is crucial for meeting LEED performance thresholds.

In essence, Smart Spaces complements LEED by continuously tuning the building’s performance – saving energy and water, improving comfort, and documenting these improvements – thereby making it easier to achieve the point totals required for higher LEED certification levels.

LEED certification has four levels:

  • Certified: Meets core sustainability standards; demonstrates basic energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
  • Silver: Delivers above-average sustainability across key areas like energy, water, and indoor environment quality
  • Gold: Strong sustainability performance with advanced energy savings, resource efficiency, and occupant well-being.
  • Platinum: Exemplary environmental leadership with top-tier performance in energy, design, health, and innovation.
