Located on Boston’s waterfront, International Place is a 1.8 million sq. ft. commercial campus that has embraced a fully connected, human-centric workplace model. In partnership with HID and powered by Smart Spaces, the site now offers a seamless, mobile-led experience for over 7,000 daily users across two interconnected towers.
The deployment marks Smart Spaces’ first full-building, landlord-led rollout in the U.S., bringing intuitive technology, meaningful amenities, and real-time services together in one place.
As Ryan Barrett, Commercial Real Estate Leasing Representative at The Chiofaro Company explains, “Smart Spaces is a very user friendly and all-encompassing platform that just makes the tenant experience a lot more seamless.”
Smart Spaces was chosen for its simplicity, flexibility, and trusted reputation in the market. Its ability to bring access control, communications, and real-time building insights into one intuitive app made it the clear choice for delivering a connected experience at scale.
As Barrett shares: “Smart Spaces has a great reputation and whenever I’m talking to prospective tenants, they’re definitely excited to hear about the implementation of Smart Spaces and coming to International Place.”
To ensure a successful rollout, the launch of Smart Spaces at International Place was supported by the platform’s dedicated on-site team. Positioned in the building during the initial launch period, the Smart Spaces team:
This proactive, face-to-face support helped drive rapid adoption, improve confidence, and ensure tenants experienced the benefits of the platform from day one.
Recognising that modern workdays are about more than just desks, The Chiofaro Company is introducing a 25,000 sq. ft. amenity space exclusively for tenants.
Designed for productivity, connection, and downtime, it includes:
As Barrett puts it:
“You’re not just going to work at a workstation for 8 to 10 hours a day. We need to provide various amenities that are exclusive to tenants. That’s been the game changer.”
These enhancements support a new era of workplace culture. One where wellbeing, flexibility, and community are just as important as productivity.
The vision for International Place was about putting people at the centre, not just upgrades. With Smart Spaces, every element of the environment supports a more efficient, engaging, and enjoyable workday.
That vision is best summed up by Barrett’s own words when explaining the new workplace: “It’s a testament to our commitment to the overall tenant experience.”
From intuitive digital services to best-in-class amenities, International Place exemplifies what’s possible when technology and tenant needs align.
Dan Drogman, CEO of Smart Spaces, concludes:
“This project represents a significant milestone for Smart Spaces in the U.S. market. International Place showcases what’s possible when cutting-edge technology, intuitive design, and a strong commitment to tenant experience come together. We’re proud to be powering one of Boston’s most iconic workplaces.”
