Making the workplace work for the user
The Smart Spaces building operating system enables the Beazley workspace by seamlessly integrating with the building management system (BMS) and IoT occupancy sensors, in a single platform.
Building the BACnet protocols, our engineers cloud-connected the app to the building networks becoming a bridge between – and a controller of – the various systems. Thanks to the sensors deployed on the doors, lobby and ACP gates, as well as on the HVAC units and luminaries, the app provides users with full control of their environment, offering unique customisation of their space. The app lets users enter the building and their workspace without having to touch any surface for a safer journey. Control of lighting can be brightened or dimmed with a touch of a finger on the interactive dial of the app’s control feature.
As the platform operates on a role-based permission system, users will only be granted access to the approved app features and predefined areas of the buildings. These will be delivered in two phases and focused on access control (Day One) with Beazley users’ ability to control only their workspace luminaries and temperature (Day Two).
Placing capacity management at the heart of our workplace strategy and to combat Covid-19, we chose Smart Spaces as the stand-out smart workplace provider to help my team facilitate the return to offices so that our staff are able to pre-book and access our offices on demand. This includes advanced IoT sensors, contactless access control and integrated room and desk booking with our single sign-on and company calendar.

Building sustainability from within
Sustainability has never been more important.
By interfacing with the building systems, the Smart Spaces platform provides a clear view of the energy consumption, at a granular and aggregated level. As the focus on promoting sustainability in the workplace increases, the Smart Spaces app will support Beazley in their journey towards improving their carbon footprint. Via an interactive and intuitive dashboard, Beazley can gain access to their real-time energy readings and to insights on their usage patterns as well as how to optimise their consumption and have the opportunity to set daily, weekly or monthly energy-saving goals.
Flexibility and community engagement to achieve a successful return to the office
In the face of the modern workforce changed habits, the scrollable Social Wall, in-app tailored offers and deals, as well as the in-building events and amenities (i.e. pre-booked car park or bike rack space; meditation, yoga, cocktail classes, parties or even corporate events booking) encourage peer to peer engagement, active workplace community involvement whilst bolstering their employees’ satisfaction and retention.
The meeting room booking and desk booking systems, too, offer that much-needed flexibility required in a post-pandemic world. As employees have become used to working remotely, they now want a dynamic approach to their working life, one that seamlessly blends the needs of the two worlds. The Smart Spaces app addresses this needs for an improved work-life balance and adapts the workspace so that control is in the hand of the end-user.
The frictionless visitor arrival-experience
The new Beazley workplace is a unique experience for visitors, too.
The platform connects the visitor management system to the meeting room booking calendar, food-ordering and much more, making inviting a guest a seamless process.
At the meeting room booking stage, visitors will receive an automated and Beazley-branded email explaining the arrival protocol and the safety measures in place in the building. The e-invite includes instructions to skip reception and gain access via a temporary QR code for a streamlined entrance.
On the day of the meeting, hosts are immediately made aware of their visitor’s arrival thank to in-app push notifications. This offers the opportunity to provide additional value and care to the visiting guest, who can be promptly welcomed into the office space and presented with refreshments.
Occupancy Sensors:
Smart Spaces supplied 175 qty PointGrab ceiling-mounted optical sensors to provide advanced space utilisation analysis with room and desk availability across the Beazley floorplates.
- using client-supplied DWG furniture layouts to map the positioning of all points in consultation with the client
- richer space utilisation reporting will be available from Day One to ensure the client FM can operate the space efficiently and dynamically subject to real-time demand i.e. close one library if both operating at 50% use.
