The JJ Mack Building, a joint venture between Ashby Capital and Helical, redefines smart workplace potential in central London.
Located just 100 metres from Farringdon Station, this landmark development was designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands with one clear ambition: to push the boundaries of occupier experience and sustainability through intelligent design and digital innovation.
At the heart of the building’s transformation is the JJ Mack Building App, developed and delivered by Smart Spaces. This occupier-branded workplace app provides users with a seamless, contactless experience from street to desk—offering a powerful suite of tools that support day-to-day activity and long-term engagement.
From smart access and digital visitor passes, to in-app controls for lighting, heating and air quality—every interaction has been considered to enhance the occupant journey.
The app also connects people across the building through its social wall and event registration features, supporting community, collaboration and culture in a modern workplace setting.
Smart Spaces worked side-by-side with the client team from RIBA Stage 3 through to practical completion, acting as a central technology partner throughout. We provided strategic input on network design, reviewed vendor submissions for base systems, and advised on key decisions to ensure full smart building compliance.
Collaboration was key. We worked in step with consultants and contractors including Long and Partners, Mace, Simmtronic, Lloret, Gallagher, Schneider and Synetica—helping to coordinate the integration of all building systems into a unified, app-first platform.
The result? A truly connected building experience, tailored for its occupiers, enabled by Smart Spaces.
