33 Charterhouse, now branded The JJ Mack Building, is a joint venture development between Ashby Capital and Helical, designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands. The building sits in a prime location 100m from the major transport interchange of Farringdon station. Innovation is at the heart of this project, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in terms of occupier experience and sustainable building performance.
The 33 Charterhouse App allows contactless access from street to desk, including smart functions such as occupancy monitoring, air quality monitoring, heating and lighting controls, as well as a community social wall and event bookings. For this project, Smart Spaces has provided overarching support to the MSI and M&E consultant throughout, across all building system integrations. Smart Spaces is fully immersed in the wider stakeholder team, working closely alongside Long and Partners, Mace, Simmtronic, Lloret, Gallagher, Schneider and Synetica.
Smart Spaces worked with the client team from Riba Stage 3, though to practical completion advising on and overseeing the network design and base systems vendor submissions for smart building compliance. Our integral role in helping to join up all stakeholder requirements to provide a single, unified Platform provided the foundation for the occupier experience App.

Once fully occupied, the 33 Charterhouse App will provide occupiers with access to 372 bike racks and bike repair station, luxury showers, changing rooms, lockers + drying room, dry cleaning service, Amazon lockers, car parking (electric vehicle charging), and other hotel like concierge services.
Smart Spaces will also provide its market-leading Digital Twin. This involves the integration of the BIM model and our Smart Spaces API to create a real time feedback digital replica of the building. This will enable the display of real-time energy per device and the ability to replicate the actions on the digital twin (e.g. changing temperatures) in the real building, as well as node workflow & optimisation management.
